Lancaster Farmland Trust Celebrates Preservation Milestone of 35,000 Acres with Media Event on June 14th

[Lancaster, PA – June 5, 2023] – Lancaster Farmland Trust [LFT], a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting farmland and promoting sustainable agriculture in Lancaster County, is thrilled to announce a significant milestone in its preservation efforts. On June 14th, LFT will host a media event celebrating the successful preservation of 35,000 acres of valuable farmland.

The event will take place at the picturesque Weber Farm, the soon-to-be preserved property that will break LFT’s 35,000-acre threshold and come under its perpetual stewardship. The celebration will commence at 11:00 AM, where attendees will have the opportunity to meet the farmers and witness a ceremonial signing of the preservation easement.

Elected officials and community leaders will be present to celebrate this momentous occasion and share their thoughts on the importance of farmland preservation. Speakers will include Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Lisa Graybeal, Commissioner Ray D’Agostino, Commissioner Joshua G. Parsons, Commissioner John Trescot, Chair of LFT’s Board of Trustees Jeff Kirk, and President and CEO of LFT Jeff Swinehart.

LFT has been working diligently since its inception in 1988 to protect the fertile farmland that sustains the region’s agricultural economy, fosters local food production, and preserves the scenic beauty that defines Lancaster County. With the preservation of 35,000 acres in 35 years, LFT has reached a remarkable milestone, a testament to the hard work and dedication of its staff, board members, community of supporters, and most importantly, the farm families.

“We are thrilled to reach this significant milestone of preserving 35,000 acres of farmland in Lancaster County,” said Jeff Swinehart, President and CEO of LFT. “This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of our community, landowners, and partners. We invite everyone to join us on June 14th to celebrate this momentous occasion and recognize the importance of preserving our agricultural resources for future generations.”

The media event will provide journalists, photographers, and videographers with an excellent opportunity to capture the essence of LFT’s impactful work.
