Imagine walking into a room bathed in soft, warm light, instantly feeling a sense of comfort and relaxation wash over you. Now, envision that same room illuminated with harsh, fluorescent lighting, casting stark shadows and creating a cold, unwelcoming atmosphere. The stark contrast between these scenarios illustrates the profound impact of lighting on our perception of space and how color temperature can directly impact mood.

Bright Side Opportunities Center was created to address the unique cultural, social, and economic needs of southwest Lancaster, offering services and resources to all members of the community: youth, elderly, non-native English speakers, and more. Headed by President and CEO Willonda McCloud, the organization tapped Shumaker PDT to produce their first-ever Sneaker Ball and transform their gymnasium space with scenic lighting, gobo projections, and offer full audio support.
Room transformations are a speciality area for our team, and we welcomed the opportunity to partner with a local community impact organization to help further advance their mission and create a high-energy atmosphere for guests and stakeholders. The Sneaker Ball offered guests a red-carpet experience, a silent auction, dancing, and entertainment.
The point is, lighting design for events is much more than simply brightening up a room with directional lighting and lining the room’s perimeter with uplights. It’s really about sculpting the environment to evoke mood and emotion to create memory. Whether it’s a cozy corner for intimate conversations, a vibrant workspace that fosters creativity, or a tranquil retreat for relaxation, the right lighting can make all the difference.
