By Chris Fitz, Director of Strategic Initiatives & Training, Advoz
When I asked a long-time client how we might adapt our conflict skills and circle process training to fit their busy schedule and tight budget, their response was clear: “There’s nothing to cut. It’s all important.”
This organization has hosted our training for two years, engaging 50 staff—many of them seasoned professionals—because they want to embed healthy conflict skills into their culture. Yet, like many businesses today, they face the same constraints: limited time and limited resources.
Their feedback underscores a critical truth: building the capacity for constructive conflict isn’t something you can shortcut.
The Efficiency Trap
In a year dominated by headlines about artificial intelligence and automation, it’s tempting to believe that technology can make us endlessly efficient—even in areas like human relationships. But the reality is different. Companies are feeling the economic pressure of this mindset, and the ripple effect is clear: training programs that once spanned 40 hours are now being squeezed into 16.
Can people truly rewire ingrained conflict responses in two days?
Brain science says no. Our fight-flight-freeze instincts kick in during high-stakes conflict, and overcoming them requires deliberate practice—just like a soldier trains for combat or an actor rehearses for the stage. Real transformation takes time, effort, and courage.
The ROI of Time Well Spent
At Advoz, we’ve seen the impact of investing in this work. In the 2024–2025 fiscal year alone, we facilitated 39 trainings with 1,000 participants, totaling 6,500 training hours, supported by 700+ hours from a dozen expert trainers. That’s not just time—it’s quality experience that strengthens company trust and deepens organizational culture.
Every moment in our training—whether it’s listening deeply, engaging in risk-taking activities, or reflecting on personal patterns—builds the internal resilience and external skills leaders need to navigate conflict effectively. These are the foundations of trust, collaboration, and innovation.
Why It Matters for Your Company
Healthy conflict isn’t a “soft skill.” It’s a strategic advantage. Organizations that invest in these practices reduce turnover, improve team performance, and create environments where creativity thrives. But it’s not about just checking a box for your company. The success of conflict resolution skills training hinges on its embeddedness in your leadership, management and team habits. That means, especially in a world obsessed with speed, taking time for this kind of work is at all levels of your company, is both counter-cultural and especially impactful.
If you’ve experienced an Advoz training, you know what we mean.
If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? As our partner said: “It’s all important.”
