'Not On My Watch' Evening Gala

Join us for a high-class, informal evening of good food, spirits, live music, and silent and live auctions to raise funds towards toward the initial build-out phase of two new micro-communities & children's homes in Kenya, laying the groundwork for construction and empowering hundreds more to self-sustainability. All guests must register to attend.
Horizon Initiative is a non-profit organization founded with a core purpose of ‘Empowering the Poor to Self Sustainability.’ Our primary focus is on rescuing and empowering orphaned children in Africa through a Micro Community Model. A Micro Community is a compound of 6-12 acres that is anchored by a children’s home and consists of a farm, dairy and poultry units, all of which allow the Micro Community to generate profits and sustain itself. Incorporated into the model is a unique educational system consisting of traditional primary academic schooling in addition to poly-technical schooling, providing the opportunity for children who don’t test into secondary school or university, to acquire trades that will set them apart. This is crucial in a local economy where the unemployment rate rises to upwards of 90%. Our goal for each child is that he or she is, in fact, self-sufficient by the time they reach the age of a young adult, thus capable of providing positive contributions to family and community sustainability. By providing hand-ups instead of hand-outs, we aim to break down the generational cycle of poverty that plagues the African continent. Backed by a diverse community of business leaders and venture capitalists, Horizon Initiative continually seeks to integrate our sustaining philanthropic work with viable business ventures, thus bringing new meaning and understanding to the marketplace, and new opportunities to impoverished areas of the world.
