Are you among the 40% who fear public speaking (Source: Gallup)? It's no secret that many professionals have a fear of giving presentations. But poor presentation skills can mean poor sales, leadership and progress for your company!

 

If you would like to improve your ability to present your ideas in front of a group, this very interactive course, taught by Diane Dayton of Dayton Communications and Joanne Bender, is for you! The facilitators will create a safe, nurturing environment which will put each and every person at ease, as practicing in a safe space is a key to becoming a more confident presenter. Each participant will present in front of the group at least once in every session and receive constructive feedback. Each attendee will also receive an individual voice coaching session, as well as follow up feedback throughout the Academy. There will be a final presentation that will be recorded and used for feedback purposes. Various exercises throughout the sessions will also be recorded and used as feedback.

 

Participants in this course will:

  • Have an awareness of their speaking and presentation voice and the impact it has on their presentation of themselves
  • Be able to use their voices more effectively and at a higher potential
  • Be able to construct an effective presentation to a large group or small meeting
  • Be able to confidently navigate networking situations and introduce themselves and fellow colleagues, as well as represent their brands or businesses
  • Be able to engage listeners on the telephone and present messages clearly and concisely, as well as present the image of the organizations in a positive and welcoming manner

Course Outline:

 

  • Session 1 - April 4, 9 a.m. to Noon Group introductions; Feedback etiquette; The five presentation pebbles. Where are we starting from, and where do we want to go?
  • Session 2 - April 11, 9 a.m. to Noon Review The five presentation pebbles; Review feedback etiquette; Introduction of other people; Keys to networking situations; Practice introductions; Individual voice coaching

  • Session 3 - April 18, 9 a.m. to Noon Small group presentations; Getting and keeping the attention of the group; Content flow; Audience engagement; Getting your message across; Listening; Practical exercises; Individual voice coaching
  • Session 4 - April 25, 9 a.m. to Noon Phone skills; Voice and content is key; How do you come across; Length of call and succinct message; Practical exercises; Individual voice coaching; First four presentations
  • Session 5 - May 2, 9 a.m. to Noon Participants’ feedback from previous week’s work experiences and applications; How are they applying the skills learned in workshop; Review of necessary points; Practical exercises; Individual voice coaching; Next four presentations 
  • Session 6 - May 9, 9 a.m. to Noon Dynamics and practicalities of large group presentations; To PowerPoint or not to PowerPoint; Practical exercises; Individual voice coaching; Next four presentations
  • Session 7 - May 16, 9 a.m. to Noon Cover any other situations that the participants may need based on their individual situations, such as radio or TV interviews, podcasts etc.; Practical exercises; Next four presentations.
  • Session 8 - May 23, 9 a.m. to Noon Sharing of learning experiences and life/work applications; Address any outstanding questions; Last four presentations.

About the Instructors - Diane Dayton of Dayton Communications and Joanne Bender:
 

 

 

 

 

Diane has more than 30 years of communications experience that includes being:

- A skilled radio and TV interviewer and on air personality both regionally and on the internet;

- A sought-after event emcee and voice over talent for regional and national client projects including Rite Aid, Armstrong and Pepsi; and

- A requested voice and presentation trainer for CEO’s, sales and management persons, on air talent, professors, other trainers and more.

 

In all these areas concentrating on crafting an impactful message and delivery to an audience of one or many has been the focus. A powerful, persuasive oral presentation in business and personal relationships is a key to success on many levels; this is the foundation that Diane effectively uses in voice and presentation training. Diane keys in on the individual’s unique qualities and inspires and motivates them to make their voice an asset and represent them well!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joanne has had a varied work experience with cultures in the United States and South Africa and is excellent at working with people. Her facilitation and training experience started by doing computer software training and designing databases. Most recently she was the National Programs Manager for Junior Achievement South Africa where she oversaw the implementation of all JA programs in South Africa. Joanne also has a passion for food and wine and has done many live presentations and has created and co-hosts her own entertaining food experiences podcast. Joanne is skilled as an interviewer, having done various TV segments that cover a wide range of products, services and people. As a stage manager for theater productions for many years, she sees and understands the flow and essentials for a great performance. Joanne has a particular talent for making people feel comfortable and heard!
