Sales Tax Exemption for Animal Housing Construction

WHEREAS, The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry has long been supportive of the County's agricultural heritage and efforts to enhance the viability of agricultural operations; and

WHEREAS, Lancaster County farms are 99 percent family-owned, contribute more than $4 billion annually to the economy and agriculture employs one in five County residents; and

WHEREAS, legislation has been introduced in the General Assembly that would exempt from state sales tax materials used in the construction of animal housing facilities; and

WHEREAS, many of our neighboring states already utilize this exclusion, which places our farmers at a competitive disadvantage: Now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry supports said legislation as a tool to lower building costs and help our local farmers and producers be more competitive and improve long-term viability; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the tax break will provide farmers with greater incentive to expand, thus providing a ripple effect of economic activity; and be it further

RESOLVED, That The Chamber encourages the members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly to support the bill.
